We would like to thank all of this year’s Reflections, Within Reach, participants. We had over 25 Beckendorff JH Bears submit entries. We are so proud of all of their hard work and their amazing entries. Thank you for supporting your child in this endeavor. We had 8 entries advance to Katy Council, and 4 entrants moving to Texas State!
Stacy Chen for her Photography entry, The Light Within
Saniya Burman for her Music Composition entry, Golden Dreams
Grace Dias for her Film Production entry, The Race
Neha Rao for her Literature entry, Dreamer
This is a wonderful achievement as nearly 60,000 students participate in the PTA Reflections program annually and less than 3% of those advance to Texas PTA. The final results will be announced on March 15th. Congratulations to all of you! Again thank you for submitting AMAZING work!! Aglaen Kirk BDJH Arts in Education/Reflections Chair
Started in 1969 by the Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson, Reflections has encouraged millions of students to express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts. More than 200,000 students participate annually in the Reflections Program. Any PTA in good standing is eligible to sponsor Reflections on their campus.
What is the PTA Reflections Program? The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program for students in preschool through grade 12. The program is designed to enhance art education for students by encouraging them to create works of art in the areas of visual arts, literature, photography, musical composition, dance choreography, or film production.
Who can participate at Beckendorff Junior High? Students in grades 6th-8th from Beckendorff JH with at least one person from their primary household with a BDJH PTA Membership can participate in the Reflections Program. To join our BDJH PTA please click on this link: www.joinpta.org For more information on the Reflections Program please continue to read the following information.
What are the categories? Eligible students may submit an entry in any or all of the six art areas. Multiple entries within a single arts category is permitted. Students will need to attach a filled out entry form for each of their art entry. Only ORIGINAL works of art are accepted and must relate to the annual Reflections theme. Students are NOT allowed to submit collaborative/team entries. Only one student name is allowed per entry form. The categories are as follows: visual arts, literature, photography, musical composition, dance choreography, or film production.
What is the Theme and when is the Submission Deadline? The theme for 2017-2018 is “Within Reach” All Reflection Submissions are due on Wednesday, October 25th. Students may drop off completed entries at the 6th grade AP's Office or the 7th/8th grade AP's Office in the Reflections Drop Box from 7:30-2:35pm. All entries must contain a completed student entry form along with the artwork’s title and artist statement. Please make sure your child turns in their art work by the end of school day on Wednesday, October 25th. We prefer to receive entries and entry forms at this time so we can help ensure all entries meet the requirements.
Where can I find Entry Forms and Participation Rules? Entry Forms and Participation rules can be picked up by parents from the front office, students can pick up forms and rules from the 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade AP's Offices OR the BDJH Library. You may also go to the Texas PTA website, http://www.txpta.org/reflections to read the Participation Rules and print an entry form.
How can parents support their students in the Reflections program? Make sure your children's submission adheres to the rules. Support your child in working independently (done with minimal supervision) to create an original piece of art inspired by the theme "Within Reach". Ensure your child articulates and explains how their artwork relates to the theme on the Artist's Statement located on the entry form.
