May 23 rd legislative/advocacy update
As mentioned in the last update, HB 4402 (broaden accountability standards for public schools) is still in
the Senate is still in the Senate Committee on Education. While voucher/ESA bills have been unsuccessful thus far, the chance remains that a special legislative session will be called to address this issue. Texas PTA continues to stand opposed to vouchers as they
will hurt Texas public schools because they direct funding away from an already critically underfunded
system. The 88th regular session of the Texas Legislature adjourns with “sine die” on May 29th . We encourage
you to remain in contact with your elected officials if a special session is called.
